The Loake family has been producing fine, handmade men’s footwear & accessories since 1880. Today, more than 125 years and five generations later, Loake is still family-owned and operating in the same town in Northamptonshire. Loake proudly holding a Royal Warrant as footwear suppliers to Her Majesty the Queen of England. Their shoes have become a favorite with discerning customers worldwide and are exported to over 30 countries. Loake is most famous for its Goodyear Welted footwear, an intricate construction with origins that can be traced back over 300 years. A Goodyear welt is the construction that is used to attach the upper of the shoe to the sole of the shoe, the welt is almost always a strip of leather (though it can technically be rubber or plastic) that runs along the perimeter of shoe’s sole. It gets sewn to the upper before it’s attached to the sole, and then the strip gets sewn to the sole, connecting the two. The process required to make a pair of Goodyear welted Loake shoes involves approximately 75 components and 200 separate operations, on average, the whole process, from start to finish, takes 8 weeks to complete. Please Note: Once purchased, we recommended all leather sole footwear have a thin rubber lining put on the sole by a shoe cobbler. Reason being, to prolong the sole life of the shoe.
